Mobil and MTS Systems engineered reliability together

3 min read

The quality of your lubricants determines the quality of your equipment’s performance. That’s why it pays to use a high-quality hydraulic fluid, inspect fluid samples at regular intervals, and practice regularly scheduled preventive maintenance.

As a supplier of test systems that require efficiency and precision, MTS Systems knows reliability isn’t optional — it’s engineered into every part of the process. Over the course of a more than 50-year relationship with MTS, Mobil™ high performance DTE 20 Ultra series hydraulic fluids have a history of success, establishing confidence in both the hydraulic fluid and MTS’ test system performance.

Finding the right hydraulic fluid
Not all hydraulic fluids are created equally. MTS has found that some antiwear products don’t hold up under harsh conditions, and industry standards don’t guarantee real-world performance, causing premature wear and inconsistent performance.

Over the years, MTS has seen firsthand how Mobil’s hydraulic products consistently perform under the extreme conditions their systems create. “MTS sets stringent control limits for fluid cleanliness because servo-hydraulic test equipment operates at higher pressures and in harsher environments than most commercial-grade hydraulic systems,” says Jim Hennen, MTS Sr. Product Development Manager.

MTS’s recommendation of Mobil DTE™ 25 Ultra is backed by years of evidence demonstrating its ability to maintain stability under high-pressure shear, resist oxidation and rust, and minimize water contamination.

And performance isn’t the only advantage — MTS relies on Mobil’s global distribution network to help confirm that the same fluid formulation is available and consistent no matter where their customers operate.

Perfecting proper hydraulic fluid maintenance
To support long-term system health, MTS also recommends regular fluid analysis — and Mobil™ Lubricant Analysis makes that easy. From monitoring chemical composition to identifying contamination before it causes damage, these tools help customers get the most from their equipment.

MTS recommends keeping a maintenance log that records:

  • Dates of fluid sampling, filter changes, and fluid changes
  • Laboratory results for:
    • Viscosity
    • Particle count
    • Water (% by content)
    • Total Acid Number
    • UC
    • Oxidation
  • Operating temperature test results
  • pH test results
  • Other inspections or maintenance

MTS needed more than a supplier. They needed a team who understood how to formulate for ultra-demanding environments — and could deliver that performance consistently around the world. The result? Finding a balanced formulation premium hydraulic oil, like Mobil DTE 25 Ultra, that’s proven in the field, globally available, and trusted by one of the most demanding test system manufacturers in the world.
