1. Turbines and Compressors

Turbomachinery is vital to petrochemical plants, driving power generation, steam generation, and mechanical processes across high-demand systems —and high-quality turbine oils are essential. Mobil SHC™ 800 Series

Mobil™ DTE 932 GT
Benefits: Next generation high performance turbine oil designed for use in large frame turbines under severe operating conditions. Developed to help reduce downtime for a more reliable operation, extend oil charge life, and reduce varnish formation potential. Mobil DTE 932 GT is specifically formulated for General Electric Frame 3, 5, 6, 7, and 9 turbines with common bearing and hydraulic oil reservoirs, where varnish control is most needed.

Mobil DTE™ 800 Series
Benefits: Superior performance turbine oils designed for use in steam turbines, gas turbines, and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) applications under the most severe operating conditions. Meeting or exceeding both gas turbine and steam turbine requirements of key builders, it was developed to avoid lube misapplication, reduce downtime costs, extend oil charge life1, protect geared turbines (gas-and steam-), and enable a more efficient operational system.

Mobil DTE™ 700 Series
Benefits: Designed to improve productivity, enhance equipment reliability, and increase uptime in both steam and moderate-duty gas turbines. Engineered to provide improved deposit control, exceptional demulsibility, superior oxidation stability, and enhanced rust and corrosion protection.


2. Pumps

Pumps are essential in petrochemical plants for moving corrosive, abrasive, and high-temperature fluids at high pressures and flow rates. 3. Enclosed Gears

Enclosed gears in petrochemical gearboxes are critical for controlling speed, torque, and power transmission under demanding conditions. But due to limited access and high operating temperatures, poor lubrication can lead to foaming, water ingress, and gear wear. Using thermally stable gear oils with strong water separation properties is key to protecting equipment and minimizing downtime.

4. Compressors

In petrochemical operations, compressors—whether centrifugal, reciprocating, screw, or dry screw—are essential for managing air and process gases across production, transport, and storage. Harsh conditions like reactive gases, high pressures, and extreme temperatures challenge lubricant integrity, often causing viscosity breakdown, varnish formation, and component wear. Choosing application-specific lubricants is key to mitigating these risks, ensuring compressor reliability, and minimizing costly downtime.


Mobil™ DTE Named Series
Benefits: Premium circulating oil that has been used successfully in rotary air compressor applications and reciprocating natural gas compressors. As this series comes from highly refined base stocks, the product has a high level of chemical and thermal stability and resistance to sludging and varnishing as well as excellent water release properties.

Mobil Rarus™ 800 Series (Di-Ester)
Benefits: Built with a balanced formulation, these are high performance oils primarily for lubricating severe duty reciprocating air compressors. They possess outstanding anti-wear and corrosion protection, which enhances equipment life and performance. They significantly reduce the potential for fires and explosions, compared to mineral oil-based products, due to a virtual absence of deposit formation and higher autogenous ignition temperatures.

Mobil SHC™ Rarus Series
Benefits: Provides the potential to deliver up to 3X oil drain interval1 versus a leading synthetic compressor lubricant in rotary screw air compressors, up to 24,000 hours of lubricant life. Particularly suited for severe service where synthetic oil-based products are not meeting expectations, such as in severe applications subjected to high final compression temperatures or where extended oil drain intervals are desired. Backed by a three-year warranty.

Mobil Glygoyle™ ISO or Named Series (PAG)
Benefits: Superior-performance gear, bearing, and compressor oils designed to provide outstanding benefits in terms of efficiency, long oil life, and equipment protection. Offers resistance to hydrocarbon gas dilution. Exceptional antiwear protection for critical equipment components, including micropitting protection and protection against rust and corrosion and foam buildup. ExxonMobil researchers have selected PAG base oils, which provide high levels of energy efficiency relative to mineral, PAOs, and other PAG oils. This, coupled with an increased thermal conductivity of about 10% over mineral and PAO oils, leads to lower operating temperatures and longer component life.

5. Bearings


Operating under harsh conditions, such as high temperatures and pressures alongside corrosive chemicals, are among the challenges facing different bearings, valves, chains, and gears used in petrochemical processing. Without proper grease lubrication, these conditions accelerate wear, cause oil bleed, and lead to contamination or caking. 6. Fin Fan Bearings

Fin fans play a key role in cooling operations at petrochemical plants, but their bearings often face harsh conditions—heat, vibration, and exposure to corrosive elements. Without proper lubrication, these bearings can fail early, leading to costly downtime and repairs. Automated grease systems and high-performance lubricants help keep bearings running smoothly by reducing friction, preventing contamination, and extending service life. 7. Barrier and Buffer Fluids

For safe operation and leakage prevention of hazardous fluids, barrier/buffer fluids are used in dual mechanical seals. It’s these fluids that help lubricate, cool, and create an actual barrier/buffer between process fluid and its surrounding environment. Selecting thermally stable, chemically compatible lubricants enhances seal reliability and extends equipment life in demanding operating conditions.


Mobil Synturion™ Series
Benefits: Formulated to meet the demanding lubrication and cooling requirements of mechanical seals and to help maximize seal life. This enables efficient heat transfer from seal surfaces to keep them cooler, builds up a resistance to deposit formation, reduces friction, and ensures a safe operation at high temperatures.

Mobil Gargoyle Artic SHC™ 224
Benefits: Designed for use in refrigeration compressors and heat pumps to reduce shaft seal leakage, minimize light end stripping, lessen frictional losses, improve machine operating efficiencies, enhance compressor protection, and extend oil life while curtailing oil consumption. This fluid has proven performance in higher temperature barrier/buffer fluid applications1.


8. Mist Oil Systems

Minimizing oil consumption and lowering maintenance needs are core aspects of petrochemical processing. Mist oil systems are there to enable an efficient lubrication method for bearings and other rotating equipment. This is typically done by generating a mist of oil to be distributed to various lubricated components for continuous lubrication and contamination prevention. This not only cuts down on oil use and manual maintenance, but also keeps contaminants out and reduces wear, helping extend equipment life and prevent breakdowns. Choosing the right lubricant for mist systems is key—it needs to stay stable under heat and pressure while protecting parts from wear and contamination.

9. Cooling Tower Fan Gearboxes

Cooling towers in petrochemical plants work hard to remove excess heat from the process. To do this efficiently, fan gearboxes slow down the motor’s speed to drive large cooling fans. These gearboxes face tough conditions—heat, moisture, and heavy loads—which are difficult to maintain and can lead to wear and breakdowns if not properly lubricated. Using the right lubricant helps reduce friction, extend equipment life, and cut down on costly maintenance1. Choosing a high-performance oil that resists contamination and handles extreme conditions is key to keeping cooling systems running reliably.

Benefits: High performance heavy duty circulating oils primarily intended for continuous reuse in circulation lubrication systems for gears and bearings. Formulated to provide superior protection against rust, resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation, and protection against wear or corrosion of soft metals.


10. Heat Transfer Systems

In order to manage temperatures and enable chemical reactions, heat transfer systems use heat exchangers, fired heaters, and heat transfer fluids. This helps provide heating, cooling, distillation, and energy recovery throughout the petrochemical process. But over time, they face challenges like fouling, corrosion, and leaks—often caused by high temperatures and fluid contamination. These issues reduce efficiency and increase maintenance costs. Lubrication helps protect moving parts and seals within heat exchanger systems, minimizing wear and resisting chemical breakdown. Choosing the right lubricant—formulated to handle extreme conditions and prevent deposit buildup—is essential for reliable performance and longer equipment life.


Mobiltherm 43
Benefits: A paraffinic type fluid designed for closed heat transfer systems with a high specific heat and thermal conductivity for more rapid heating and greater system flexibility. Using this enables resistance to thermal cracking, provides excellent oxidation stability and high heating efficiency.

Mobiltherm™ 603
Benefits: Built for use in closed indirect heating installations, this oil eliminates sludge and coke deposits, maintains high heat transfer rates, improves operating efficiency, and elongates the trouble-free service life while reducing downtime.


11. 4-Cycle Natural Gas Engine

In petrochemical plants, 4-cycle natural gas engines are used to power compressors and pumps with high fuel efficiency and lower emissions. These engines operate under intense pressure and heat, which can lead to oil degradation, deposit buildup, and increased wear. Proper lubrication helps control acid formation, reduce ash deposits, and protect critical components like valves and piston rings. Choosing the right lubricant—formulated for thermal stability, low ash content, and acid neutralization—is essential to keep engines running reliably and extend service life.


Mobil Pegasus™ 1005
Benefits: Premium natural gas engine oil is designed to provide outstanding protection for today’s high-output, low-emissions, 4-cycle gas engines. Designed to deliver exceptional oxidation stability, nitration resistance, and thermal stability while controlling wear on critical engine components, reducing oil consumption, and improving drain intervals.

Mobil Pegasus™ 805 Ultra
Benefits: High performance gas engine oil engineered to meet the rigorous demands of today's high output four-cycle engines designed to reduce emissions and improve fuel-efficiency. Formulated to provide protection against piston scuffing, scoring, and ring and liner wear while enabling resistance to foam, good demulsibility, and high-level corrosion protection. It meets a wide range of OEM requirements making it a great choice where high-speed four-cycle engines from various OEMs are used.


12. 2-Cycle Natural Gas Engine

To help rotate petrochemical processing equipment, this engine is used to power compressors to move gas through pipelines, drive liquid fuel transportation in pumps, and generate electricity. These engines run hot and fast, often burning sour or wet gas that can lead to acid formation, varnish buildup, and wear on critical parts like pistons and bearings. Lubrication plays a key role in protecting these components, but not all oils are up to the task. Choosing the right lubricant—formulated to resist oxidation, control deposits, and neutralize acids—is essential to keeping engines running efficiently and avoiding costly downtime.


Mobil Pegasus™ 801
Benefits: Services all applications where ashless and low-ash oils are recommended in 2- and 4-cycle gas engines to extend engine, oil, and filter life, reduce levels of carboning, lessen valve and combustion chamber ash and carbon build-up, and increase engine life while protecting all engine components against corrosive wear.


13. Auxiliary Products for Long Equipment Life

In addition to all the offerings we have for petrochemical processing, these are a few extras that may come in handy from time to time.


Mobil™ Solvancer®
Benefits: Cost-effective, oil-soluble cleaner that can be added to in-service oils to quickly dissolve varnish and organic deposits within a variety of industrial applications7 and systems, ultimately helping to improve reliability and reduce overall cost of operation. Use of Mobil™ Solvancer® does not require systems to be taken offline in many cases such as when used to eliminate minor deposits8 or in support of oil life extensions. Mobil Solvancer has one of the industry’s lowest treat rates1— 3-5% compared to the average treat rate of 10-15%.

Mobil Vaprotec Light
Benefits: Rust-Inhibiting Circulation Oil containing anti-oxidants and defoamants. It is enhanced with a three-phase rust inhibitor to protect surfaces lightly coated with oil; a liquid phase inhibitor to protect surfaces submerged in oil; and vapor space inhibitors to protect surfaces exposed to oil vapors. Developed for wide-temperature protection for steel surfaces in vapor spaces that don’t encounter oil in order to protect against rust and corrosion while maintaining a decent demulsibility equivalent to normal turbine oil.


14. Electric Motors

Electric motors work hard and need routine lubrication to stay reliable. Without proper oil or grease, friction builds up—causing overheating, insulation breakdown, corrosion, and contamination. This shortens motor life and increases maintenance needs. Using the right lubricant and sticking to a regular service schedule helps prevent costly failures and keeps motors running efficiently.


Mobil SHC Polyrex™ 100 EM Series
Benefits: High performance, synthetic electric motor grease. The advanced thickener formulation and proprietary manufacturing techniques provide improved bearing performance and protection for long electric motor life. Mobil SHC Polyrex™ 102 EM demonstrates up to 40% improvement in bearing torque reduction in controlled laboratory testing9.

Mobil Polyrex™ EM
Benefits: Super Premium electric-motor grease. Recommended by many major bearing and electric motor manufacturers for long-life lubrication of electric motor ball and roller bearings.

Mobilith SHC™ 100
Benefits: Excellent choice for electric motor bearing lubrication in extreme temperature environments. Excellent low temperature pumpability and very low starting and running torque, can handle extreme temperatures, and has a low coefficient of traction compared to mineral oils. 370+ equipment builders approve or endorse Mobilith SHC Series greases.


15. Couplings

Couplings connect rotating equipment like motors and pumps, making power transfer possible. But without proper oil lubrication, friction between moving parts increases, leading to misalignment, vibration, and premature wear. This drives up maintenance costs and risks unplanned downtime. Using the correct lubricant and maintaining clean, sealed systems are key to keeping couplings running smoothly and reliably.
