Haul trucks are the lifeblood of your operation. If they’re not moving, you’re probably losing money. So, you need to keep those machines in motion, and, if you can do it while reducing costs, even better.
How do you achieve that, though? Believe it or not, your lubrication program can help boost haul truck availability while saving you money – take one Minnesota mine’s experience as an example.
The mine operates 48 CAT 793 haul trucks, and it wanted to improve truck availability by 2% while reducing operating costs.
In collaboration with the Mobil™ Engineering team, the mine’s maintenance staff conducted a full assessment of historical data from the past three years, current preventative maintenance program reports, and oil and filter analysis data.
The resulting recommendations: upgrade filtration technology and switch to a synthetic gear oil.
After making these changes, the mine was able to improve haul truck reliability, delivering on its availability goals and even improving fuel efficiency. Combined, this resulted in more than $700K in annual cost savings.*
