Avoiding $15M in engine repairs by identifying the challenge early¹

An operating fleet of over 40 haul trucks discovered a significant problem: consequential levels of lead in their oil analyses. Knowing that such a contamination could cause serious engine damage down the road, they enlisted the help of Mobil™ engineers to get to the bottom of the issue.

After going over the data, our engineers recommended isolating three trucks and a shovel engine and using Mobil Delvac Modern™ 15W-40 Extended Performance engine oil to provide lead control. When this proved effective, the product was then implemented in the entire fleet.

The reinforced additive system in Mobil Delvac Modern™ 15W-40 is designed for use in a wide variety of heavy-duty applications in off-highway environments, where it’s especially critical to protect engine components in order to extend engine life. In addition to providing an immediate decrease in lead in the lubricant, Mobil Delvac Modern™ 15W-40 also provided an ODI up to twice the average OEM recommendation — up to 1,000 hours².

All in all, the change ended up saving this fleet an estimated $15 million in engine repair.

Pulling into the fast lane for 2 championships and over 90 victories

For over ten years, Mobil Delvac™ lubricants has collaborated with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) to be unstoppable well before the green flag. When one of the top NASCAR® teams in the country needs to get to the track on time, there’s only one brand they trust.

“Mobil Delvac™ has been an integral part of all the success we’ve had at Stewart-Haas Racing,” says driver Aric Almirola, Driver of the No. 10 car in the SHR Team. “Over ten years we’ve had two championships and over 90 victories. They’ve been wonderful.”

The SHR team relies on heavy duty trucks to carry their vehicles and equipment to the racetrack — and each of those haulers rely on Mobil Delvac™ lubricant. When their fleet’s oil drain interval was 20,000 miles, they endured three oil changes per season — in their final years, with a 70,000 mile ODI³, they were down to just one change per year. And with the support of Mobil Lubricant Analysis, SHR was always confident they would make it to the track on time and continue to stand out as one of the top racing teams in the country.
