Sometimes, making a big impact on your mine’s output or bottom line depends on the smallest of equipment components. For one Canadian mine, it came down to taking care of some troublesome bearings on their vibrating screen exciter gearboxes.
The company was experiencing frequent premature bearing failures on these machines, and it was causing the maintenance team significant headaches – not to mention issues with overall mine performance.
The maintenance team partnered with Mobil™ engineers to find a solution. Together, the team realized the bearings needed a more advanced lubricant that could protect the components from extreme conditions experienced at the plant.
The Mobil team recommended a synthetic gear oil, which helped improve equipment reliability and plant safety. And, the team was able to extend oil drain intervals for these components by three times, reducing waste and man hours.
